Tabou Combo is the most internationally successful konpa band in history — the group that took Haitian dance music to Europe, the Americas, and beyond. Founded in 1968, the band became famous for its electrifying live performances and a horn-driven sound that made konpa a fixture of world-music dance floors. Key members include Shoubou (Roger M. Eugène), Albert Chancy, Adolphe Chancy, and Yvon “Kapi” André. Their album New York City (1974) became a certified golden hit in Europe, a milestone that proved Haitian music could compete commercially far beyond the diaspora. Other landmark releases include 8th Sacrement (1975), The Best of Tabou Combo (1977), Aux Antilles (1989), Zap Zap (1991), and Kitem Fe Zafem (1996). Tabou Combo’s legacy is that of the genre’s greatest ambassador: wherever konpa is known outside Haiti, Tabou Combo helped put it there.
