Carimi was the international crossover phenomenon of 2000s konpa — a trio whose polished sound carried the genre to new audiences across the diaspora and beyond. Active from 2001 to 2016, the band united Carlo Vieux (vocalist, keyboardist), Richard Cavé (composer, keyboardist, vocalist), and Mickaël Guirand (lead vocalist) in one of the most successful lineups in modern Haitian music. Their discography charts a steady rise: Bang Bang (2001), Nasty Biznis (2004), Are U Ready? (2006), Buzz (2009), and Invasion (2013). After the band’s run ended in 2016, its members continued as solo forces — Guirand fronting Vayb and Cavé leading Kai — each carrying the Carimi songbook’s legacy forward. In the HMI directory, all three members carry Carimi plus their current band affiliations.
